SUDANESE REFUGEE EDUCATION FUND www.sudaneseinkentucky.org

In late 2005 friends of the Sudanese refugees established a scholarship fund to help them fulfill their dream of earning college degrees. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Sudanese Refugee Education Fund was able to distribute $5,000 in grants to 16 scholars in January 2006, $7,800 to 18 scholars in August 2006, $11,000 to 25 scholars in January 2007, $7,200 to 18 scholars in May 2007, $22,650 to 31 students in August 2007, $21,050 to 27 students in December 2007, and $15,500 to 20 scholars in August 2008. We are pleased that the most recent group of scholars includes the first of the women of Sudan from this region to enter college and receive support. The Sudanese Refugee Education Fund operates as a corporate depository fund within the Community Foundation of Louisville, in partnership with Resurrection Community Center, a 501c(3) charitable organization. All direct donations are tax deductible, and 100 percent of the contributions go towards the scholarships. There are no administrative fees or staff costs.
