Mentoring
Many of our scholarship winners and alumni face difficult choices about their educations and confront obstacles securing a foothold in their careers of choice. Because they are the first generation of Sudanese to seek post-secondary educations (and often the first to complete more than a few years of school at all), they lack familial resources to help make decisions about their education. As immigrants who speak English as a second language and often worked full time while attending school, they also lack the social networks that help the vast majority of people find jobs.
If you have experience in a professional field and a little time to spare, your advice could change a life and spark a new friendship. Professionals in the health-care field, business, IT, engineering, law, and law enforcement are especially desired. Louisvillians interested in mentoring should drop us a line through the contact page to begin a conversation about being matched with a local Sudanese refugee.
